Wayland is a city in Allegan County.
The city is located at the northwest corner of Wayland Township, Michigan, but is politically independent. The city has also incorporated a portion of land in the south of adjacent Leighton Township. U.S. Highway 131 forms the western boundary of the city.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.9 square miles, of which, 2.9 square miles of it is land and 0.04 square miles of it (1.37%) is water.
