 | In The News ... Thornapple Creek Golf Club a MichianaGolf.com 5-Star Certified Course
Located just 10 minutes north of M-43 / West Main in Kalamazoo, Michigan is Thornapple Creek Golf Club, one of the area's most cherished golf courses. A local favorite for more than 10 years, this scenic course has something for everyone. Their rolling hills, elevated greens, well-positioned bunkers and, as GM/Head Pro Tyler Eddy points out, "healthy, true and some of the fastest greens in the area" provides a challenge for golfers at every skill level.
This Mike Shields designed course opened in 1981 offering Bermuda greens, a slope rating of 130 and 6,579 beautiful yards for all to enjoy. Although the course is just 10-15 minutes away from several major roadways, you'd never know it as you play this peaceful "resort like" course. The resort feeling continues all the way to Thornapple Creek's 19th hole, tucked away in their quaint log cabin clubhouse.
Thornapple Creek Golf Club includes "tree top" and water views, marsh on several holes and a back nine that wraps around a large pond with many "risk and reward" opportunities. The scenic Hole # 9 is a stunning 528-yard, Par-5 that slopes down to the right, and is perfect for long hitters. Getting there in two is possible, but you'll want to be careful as the green is well protected with 3 bunkers and water on the right.
Your scenic views are just beginning as you approach the back nine. Hole # 13; a long 593-yard, Par-5 "bender" wraps around the large Thornapple pond along the right of the fairway. Unless you've hit the drive of your life, you're probably looking at 3 shots to the green with your third shot going directly over the pond to an elevated green -- protected with a bunker on the left and trees to the right.
When asked about the Signature Hole, Eddy states "We have 3 of the most scenic and challenging finishing holes found anywhere in Southwest Michigan." Hole # 16 is a 508-yard, Par-5 with an elevated tee box, and more tree-top views. For the long hitters, you can reach it in two but many have also overshot the peninsula green located at the end of the sloped fairway. Truly a risk and reward hole! Hole # 17 is a 162-yard, Par-3 with nothing but lily pads and water between you and the green. You'll finish your round with a fairly short 362-yard, Par-4 featuring a well-positioned bunker along the right side of the fairway. Here you will enjoy more tree-top views as well as Thornapple Creek's clubhouse.
Thornapple Creek Golf Club has all the amenities! Driving range, practice chipping and putting greens, on-course drinks/snacks, golf carts, pull carts, club rental, club cleaning, Pro Shop and some of the best clubhouse dining options found in Southwest Michigan. Thornapple Creek's menu offers much more than simply hot dogs and burgers. If you and your partner are looking for something fun and different; we suggest reserving a tee time for the Friday Night Couples Special. This includes 9 holes of golf and dinner for two at a very affordable rate.
When you combine all the many features and amenities with Thornapple Creek's "resort like" atmosphere, log cabin clubhouse, large outdoor patio, the many dining options, and friendly staff; you'll have the perfect setting for wedding receptions, banquets and, of course, golf outings.
It's easy to see why Thornapple Creek Golf Club in Kalamazoo, Michigan continues to be a local favorite!

Kalamazoo, Michigan, a little more ... | | |
Kalamazoo is the largest city in and the county seat of Kalamazoo County.
Kalamazoo is home to Western Michigan University, a nationally recognized research institution that has benefited from the local presence of Pfizer, Eaton Corporation and Stryker Corporation. This has enabled the school to offer strong programs in both its College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Haworth College of Business. The city is also home to Kalamazoo College (often referred to as "K College"), a liberal arts school located adjacent to WMU's campus.
The area on which the modern city stands was once home to Native Americans of the Hopewell culture, who migrated into the area sometime before the first millennium. Evidence of their early residency still remains in the form of a small mound downtown in Bronson Park. The Hopewell civilization began to decline at some point after the eighth century and was replaced by other groups. The Pottawatomi culture was resident in the area at the time the first European explorers arrived.
The city is named for the Kalamazoo River, but there is debate as to where the name Kalamazoo actually comes from. It is generally thought that the name originates in the language of either the Potawatomi or Odawa peoples who were native to the area at the time of European settlement.
