 | In The News ... Yankee Springs Golf Course Story & Photography By: David Rosekrans MichianaGolf.com Correspondent
In 1963, a man by the name of Frank Tichvan felt the Gun Lake area needed a golf course. Without ever having played the game, he started Yankee Springs Golf Course, one of the most beautifully designed 9-hole courses you can imagine.
And in 1969, Tichvan felt that the original nine needed to be made into an 18-hole course so he designed and built a second set of nine holes. Again in 1987, he designed and built a third set of nine holes.
Today Yankee Springs Golf Course offers you 27 holes for your golfing pleasure. This is a 6,373-yard, par 72 course with a slope of 110, and a rating of 69.1. Frank did a great job, didn't he???
Evan Seifert is the current course owner with his son Adam serving as the Club Professional.
It is the Seiferts' quest to give you the best-kept course for your golfing enjoyment. Both Evan and Adam take great pride in the numerous comments that they receive each season regarding the immaculate condition of Yankee Springs and how pleased the golfers are with the play.
Every hole at Yankee Springs Golf Course is an honest, but fair, test of your golfing skills. Yankee Springs is a "fun, wide open course to play," however you will find strategically placed (or should we just say "pesky") mature trees that come into play. Trees or not, we'll bet that you will enjoy your round and make plans for a return trip.
After your enjoyable day on the course, you and your group can visit "The Grille" restaurant and lounge at Yankee Springs to discuss your round over a favorite beverage. "The Grille" offers a full menu of enticing entrées that many golfers return to again and again as the quality of the food and service is not easily matched.
Be sure to give your regards to Frank during your visit to the beautiful Yankee Springs Golf Course, as we are absolutely positive that he is still on the grounds somewhere keeping watch over his life-long project.
